Understanding Patterns, Relationships, and Change
Vanessa offers a family systems approach to counseling, which means she helps clients look at challenges through a broader lens. Instead of focusing only on one issue, one person, or one moment, this approach considers the patterns, relationships, roles, and dynamics that may be shaping what is happening.
In therapy, Vanessa helps clients think differently about their problems and begin to see where change may be possible. That often includes looking honestly and compassionately at the part each person plays in the process.
Her goal is not to tell clients who they are or what their life should look like. Vanessa believes the client is the expert in their own life. Therapy is a place to explore what is working, what is not working, and what the client wants to change.
Meet Vanessa Elias, LMHC
A licensed mental health counselor with a warm, thoughtful, and relationship-centered approach.
Vanessa Elias has known she wanted to be a therapist for as long as she can remember. Even in high school and college, she was often the person others turned to when they needed to talk, process something difficult, or think through how to move forward.
She earned her undergraduate degree in psychology from Huron University at the University of Western Ontario in Canada, graduating with honors, before moving to Miami to pursue graduate studies in clinical psychology at Barry University. After completing her graduate degree, Vanessa was asked by her professors to teach at the university level, working with both master’s level and undergraduate students.
Vanessa became licensed in 2007 and is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Qualified Supervisor in the state of Florida. She is also a doctoral candidate and has completed her coursework and comprehensive exams toward a PhD in counseling with a specialization in marriage, couples, and families.
Today, Vanessa brings together her clinical training, teaching experience, and deep commitment to helping people strengthen their relationships and better understand themselves. Her style is warm, insightful, genuine, approachable, and empathetic.
